Faculty Positions

Shaping the Future of Design

At the School of Design-IIT Jodhpur we are committed to nurturing the next generation of design leaders. We believe in a holistic approach to design education, one that transcends traditional boundaries and embraces the dynamic interplay between theory, practice, and industry relevance. We seek passionate and forward-thinking educators who share this vision and are prepared to go beyond the conventional to empower our students.

To be considered for a faculty position, we invite you to reflect deeply on the following points and, ideally, take steps to address these areas before you formally apply:

Your Expertise and Proposed Courses

What subjects are you equipped to teach? We encourage proposals for both established and novel courses that reflect the evolving landscape of design. Consider emerging technologies, new design methodologies, and the pressing societal challenges that design can address. Don't limit yourself to what exists – imagine what should exist within a cutting-edge design curriculum.

Core Area of Design and Curricular Relevance

Are your proposed courses central to a specific design discipline? Clearly identify the area of design your courses fall under (e.g., XR Design, Automotive and Mobility, Product Design, Interaction Design, Communication Design, etc.) and explain how they contribute to the core curriculum within that area.

Your (Research) Interests

Beyond your professional expertise in design, describe any personal interests or hobbies you pursue. These interests need not be directly related to design. Approximately how much time do you dedicate to these pursuits weekly? Do these interests result in any tangible outputs or outcomes? Could these interests potentially offer any learning opportunities or benefits for students, perhaps through interdisciplinary projects or alternative perspectives? Have any of these interests intersected with formal research or led to any specific outputs in any field?

Your Accomplishments

We encourage you to compile a portfolio of work you're proud of, highlighting your individual and collaborative efforts. This could include designs, sketches, paintings, innovative processes you've developed, articles you've written, or consulting projects you've undertaken. For each piece, reflect on what aspects you find most compelling or rewarding. What did you enjoy about creating them, and what impact they might have had?

Bridging Academia and Industry – Real-World Application

How will the knowledge and skills gained in your courses translate into tangible value for students in their professional careers? We are looking for educators who are deeply connected to industry trends and can equip students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a competitive job market.

Deep Dive into Design Practice – Industry Research

We expect you to have thoroughly researched the current state of your chosen design field. Demonstrate your understanding by visiting and analyzing at least 10 design studios, companies, or industries aligned with your area. Understand the evolving roles of designers, the essential skill sets required, and the collaborative nature of design work.

Understanding the Collaborative Ecosystem of Design

Who do designers work within these professional settings? Go beyond the obvious (product managers, coders, etc.) to identify the full spectrum of collaborators - marketers, researchers, data scientists, anthropologists, business analysts, content strategists, industrial designers, mechanical engineers, and even legal teams in some instances. Understanding these diverse collaborations is crucial for students to become effective designers.

Building a Network for Student Success – Industry Engagement

Demonstrate your commitment to student success by engaging with at least 15 industry decision-makers who could potentially offer internships or full-time positions to our graduates. This showcases your understanding of the job market and your ability to connect students with opportunities.

Immersive Learning – Workshop Proposal

Propose a one-day workshop that you could deliver to our students, providing them with a taste of your teaching style and expertise. This is an opportunity to showcase your ability to engage students in hands-on, practical learning.

Connect with the School – Build a Relationship

We strongly encourage you to proactively engage with our school. Reach out to our faculty, suggest workshops or guest lectures you can take, showcase your portfolio to the students and faculty, attend our events, and familiarize yourself with our programs and values. Show us that you are genuinely interested in becoming a part of our community.

Embracing a Growth Mindset

As a growing institution, we are seeking faculty members who are not just educators, but also active builders and innovators. We need individuals who are passionate about shaping the future of our school and committed to going the extra mile. Beyond the core responsibilities of teaching, mentoring, and research, you will be expected to actively contribute to program and course development, setting up state-of-the-art labs, seeking funding opportunities, crafting compelling project proposals, and nurturing strong industry relationships to secure placements and collaborative projects. This requires significant dedication and a proactive approach to building a thriving academic environment.

We believe this is an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of design education. If you share our passion and vision, and are excited by the prospect of building something truly exceptional, we eagerly anticipate receiving your application. Let's create the future of design together!

When you are ready to embark on this exciting journey with us, please submit your application on this page. Note: Please select School of Liberal Arts when applying. (The application link was created when the design programs were being run from the School of Liberal Arts, but were later moved to the School of Design.)
