Doctorial Program
The vision of the Department is to enhance the research environment and to innovate in pedagogy to address the challenges of socio-economic and human resource development. The Department is committed to high-quality research by Faculty Members and Students in the pursuit of excellence in academics. The department offers a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering within three major domains of Thermofluids, Design, and Manufacturing. The students also have the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary specialization in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data and Computational Science, Smart Healthcare, Energy Materials, and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS).
The fellowship for Ph.D. scholars is:

The students enrolled in the Ph.D. program will receive a fellowship from the starting date of course.
A student shall be formally registered/admitted to the candidacy of Ph. D. degree only after he/she has cleared the comprehensive examination as per the Institute norms.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Jodhpur hosts PhD programs under three major domains namely; Thermofluids, Design, and Advanced Manufacturing with Exposure in emerging areas such as Smart manufacturing, Additive manufacturing, Ultra-precision finishing, Welding, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, Smart Healthcare, Nano-sensors, Multi-phase flows, Fluid-structure interactions, High speed flows, Hydrogen energy, Gas turbines, Vibration and acoustics, Robotics and automation, Computational solid and fracture mechanics.
