Her academic journey includes a PhD in Mathematics from IISER Mohali, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at IISER Pune under the NBHM and SERB National Post Doctoral Fellowships. She was awarded a Gold Medal for securing the first position in her MSc Mathematics program at Panjab University in 2009. She has been serving as a faculty member at IIT Jodhpur since 2019.

She has taught a wide range of mathematics courses, including Real Analysis, Number Theory, Abstract Algebra, Linear Algebra, Optimization, and specialized subjects like Group Theory for Machine Learning and Representations of Finite Groups. She is also teaching regularly in national level schools sponsored by National center of Mathematics (NCM) and Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM). She has also organized workshops and academic programs, such as the Annual Foundation School-I (2022), Women in Maths: Progress and Challenges (2022), and the Online SageMath Workshop (2021).

In research, Dr. Kaur has made significant contributions to algebra, particularly in the areas of finite groups, conjugacy classes and representations of finite groups, quadratic forms,  quandles and quandle rings. She is the Principal Investigator (PI) of a project titled "Computations in Wreath Product", funded by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) under the MATRICS scheme.
