About

Nitesh Arora is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Jodhpur. Prior to joining IIT Jodhpur, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2023 and his bachelor’s degree from IIT Roorkee in 2018.

Prof. Arora leads the Structured & Active Materials Lab, where his group integrates theory, computation, and experiments to investigate how structure, geometry, and activity can be harnessed to design metamaterials with programmable and adaptive mechanical responses.

His research has been recognized with several honors, including the Thomas J. R. Hughes Fellowship, the APS Distinguished Student Award, and the NSF Presenter Fellowship. Beyond research, he is actively involved in science outreach and has served as an Outreach Fellow for the U.S. National Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
