Title of the talk: Stochastic modelling of fault-tolerant machining systems

Date, Time & Venue: 20 April 2026 at 5:00 P.M on Seminar room, Dept. of Mathematics

Abstract: In this presentation, we shall discuss stochastic models to analyze the performance of fault-tolerant machining systems. Particular emphasis will be placed on reliability aspects and optimal control policies, incorporating realistic features such as server vacations, unreliable servers, N-policy, and reboot/recovery mechanisms. The queue size distribution will be derived, highlighting key performance measures along with a cost–benefit analysis. The soft computing approaches, namely fuzzy logic and the meta-heuristic technique known as harmony search, will also be considered. Finally, numerical simulations and practical applications of these models in real-world scenarios will be discussed.

About the Speaker: Dr Pankaj Kumar received his M.Sc. (2012) and PhD (2021) in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India. Following the completion of his doctoral studies, he worked as a Research Associate at IIT Roorkee until September 2021. Since November 2021, he has been serving in the Department of Mathematics at Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi. His research interests lie in queueing theory, system reliability, stochastic modelling, and performance analysis of fault-tolerant systems
