Title of the talk: Function-correcting b-symbol codes for locally bounded functions
Date & Time: Nov 12,2025 at 12 noon (ONLINE)
Abstract: In this talk, we first discuss several bounds on code size for b-symbol read channels. Subsequently, we discuss a general framework for a recently proposed coding framework, namely function-correcting codes (Lenz et al., 2023), which are designed to protect the function evaluation of a message against errors. We further investigate the concept of locally bounded functions for b-symbol read channels and establish bounds on the optimal redundancy of function-correcting b-symbol codes.
About the speaker: Dr. Gyanendra Kumar Verma is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the UAE University (since October 2024). He received his B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Mathematics from the Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (2016, 2018), and earned his Ph.D. in algebraic coding theory from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in July 2024. Immediately after his doctorate, he served as an Early-Doc Fellow at IIT Delhi (July 2024–October 2024). His research interests include algebra and its applications to coding theory, with a focus on algebraic methods for function-correcting and error-correcting codes.
