Research Seminar by Dr. Vidya Sagar on Nov 10, 2025 at 12:00 P.M

Title of the talk: " Construction of certain binary linear codes and their applications"

Date & Time : Nov 10, 2025 at 12:00 PM

Abstract: In recent years, the study of linear codes over finite rings has attracted significant attention due to their rich algebraic structure and their potential to yield efficient classes of binary codes. In this seminar, we begin by exploring a construction of linear codes over a finite ring and discuss the underlying algebraic framework that makes these constructions particularly interesting. We obtain many families of binary linear codes with desirable properties. Several structural features and parameters of these codes will be analyzed. Finally, we highlight some interesting applications of these binary codes.

About the Speaker: Dr. Vidya Sagar obtained his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics from St. Xavier's College Ranchi in 2016, and M.Sc. in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur in 2018. He completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi under the supervision of Prof. Ritumoni Sarma (July 2018 - November 2023). After submitting his doctoral thesis, he served as a Visiting Researcher at the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi (August–November 2023), and subsequently as an Early-Doc Fellow at IIT Delhi (November–December 2023). He was an IoE-Postdoctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (December 2023–March 2025), and later at the School of Mathematics, Southwest Jiaotong University, China (June 2025–October 2025). His research interests lie primarily in algebraic coding theory.

Teaching topic: "Connecting the Non-Group-Theoretic and Group-Theoretic Forms of Lagrange’s Theorem"
