Dr. Sumana Som is an art practitioner in the realm of art and design research, specializing in the creation of virtual reality environments, educational content, and the development of innovative tools. Her academic journey includes the completion of a PhD (2022) from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, during which she also had the opportunity to contribute as a partner PhD scholar with Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. 

Dr. Sumana's  educational background comprises a Bachelor in visual arts degree (BVA-2011) from the College of Art & Design, University of Burdwan. Subsequently, she completed Master's degree (MFA- 2013) from Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad. Her creative inspiration draws from a diverse array of sources, ranging from short stories and novels to Bengali literature, cinema and Hindi cinema that vividly depict different behavioural perceptions. Her creative design practics manifests in both large-scale narrative explorations and small-scale representations of instantaneous thoughts, inviting viewers to engage with the profound layers of meaning within each piece. Her practiced acknowledged with prestigious awards such as, the Inlaks Fine Arts Award in 2013, and the National Academy Award from Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi in 2014, Elizabeth Greenshields Grant 2017 from Canada USA. Currently, she is assistant Professor in the School of Design, IIT Jodhpur and actively engaged with the contemporary art gallery, Dhi Artspace, located in Hyderabad.
