During the 40th PSSI National Plasma Symposium on Plasma Science and Technology (Plasma-2025) held at IIT Tirupati between 27-29 December, 2025.  

Department of Physics, IIT Jodhpur is delighted to share that Professor Ram Prakash has been elected as the President of Plasma Science Society of India (PSSI) for the term of 2026-2028.  Established in 1978, the Plasma Science Society of India is a premier national society dedicated to the promotion of plasma science and technology. The Society plays a vital role in advancing research, education, and applications of plasma science across the country. PSSI actively fosters collaboration among researchers, academic institutions, national laboratories, and industry through publications, conferences, educational initiatives, and coordinated research programs. It also works to popularize plasma science by supporting academic curricula, public outreach, and the development of plasma scholars. 

PSSI has a strong and diverse membership base comprising scientists and scholars from leading Indian organizations, including Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) institutes such as IPR Gandhinagar, BARC Mumbai, RRCAT Indore, SINP Kolkata, etc.; DRDO laboratories such as MTRDC Bengaluru, etc.; Department of Space Centers including PRL Ahmedabad, SAC Ahmedabad, etc.; CSIR laboratories such as CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar, CSIR-CEERI Pilani, NPL New Delhi, etc.; and DST institutions like IASST Guwahati, etc. Faculty members and students from IISc Bengaluru, almost all IITs, selected NITs, universities, and colleges across India, along with industries engaged in plasma technologies, are active members of the Society.

Plasma science is a field where curiosity meets creativity, and collaboration illuminates the path of discovery. Professor Ram Prakash’s presidentship is expected to further strengthen PSSI’s mission and enhance its impact on the national and international plasma science community.
