Design and Development of Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) and Empty SIW (ESIW) Based RF-Microwave Components
Arani Ali Khan, PI / SERB / Completion in 2022
Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) can be considered as planar form of conventional air filled waveguide. This circuit technology offers lower loss and higher power handling capability as compared to existing planar microwave and millimetre wave circuit technologies like microstrip, CPW, GCPW. Due to lower loss, SIW is becoming popular to design components especially for narrow band applications. The loss of such structures can further be reduced by using Empty SIW (ESIW) technology. Attractive properties like compact size, lower implementation cost and higher power handling, make SIW and ESIW suitable to design passive microwave components like filters, diplexers, multiplexers, power dividing and combining networks, antennas. On the other hand, its ease of integration with other planar circuits like microstrip, CPW makes it suitable to implement active components like amplifiers, mixers, oscillators. Higher power handling capability makes SIW and ESIW promising candidates for the implementation of CW mode high power amplifiers.
