Welcome to the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur was established on 1 May 2026 and formally inaugurated during the first edition of Marudhara Pratibaddhta Divas by Shri Srinivas Voruganti, Hon’ble Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, marking a significant milestone in the institute’s interdisciplinary academic expansion.
The department is dedicated to advancing research and teaching at the interface of economics, science, and technology. With the launch of its PhD programme in Economics, the department aims to promote rigorous, technology-driven research addressing contemporary economic and societal challenges. Its research activities are currently organised around three broad thematic areas: Digital Economy and Computational Economics; Energy, Environment, and the Global Economy; and Innovation, Culture, and Development Economics.
