Biography

Dr. Yogeshwar Nath Mishra is an Assistant Professor at IIT Jodhpur. He earned his Ph.D. in Optics and Engineering Physics from Lund University, Sweden, in 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Edouard Berrocal, where he developed advanced laser diagnostics for probing optically dense media. He subsequently held postdoctoral and research scientist positions at FAU Erlangen in Germany, and jointly at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in the USA.

He has been mentored by several globally renowned scientists and pioneers in their fields, including Prof. Lihong Wang (Caltech), Dr. Murthy Gudipati (NASA), and Prof. Wolfgang Heidrich (KAUST).

Dr. Mishra has received numerous accolades, including the Indian Academy of Sciences Summer Research Fellowship (2010), Visiting Student Fellowship from Raman Research Institute (2011), SPIE Student Author Travel Award (2012), PETRA Awards for Young Researchers - ILASS Europe (2013), ÅForsk Foundation Scholarship (2015), Invited Speaker, Gordon Research Conference (2017), Swedish Research Council International Postdoctoral Fellowship (2018), Adlerbert Foundation Sustainable Research Fellowship – Gothenburg (2022), Dr. K. Radhakrishnan Young Scientist Award (2023) from ISEES–IIT Kanpur, and the Young Researcher Award (2025, Runner-up) from Erlangen Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies, FAU Erlangen, Germany.

While at Caltech, he co-invented laser sheet compressed ultrafast photography (LS-CUP), a groundbreaking technique recognized as the World’s Fastest single-shot planar imaging method. This work, conducted under Prof. Lihong Wang, was among the top-downloaded articles in the prestigious Light: Science and Applications journal in 2023. More recently, he reported CUP2AI, recognized as the world’s fastest single-shot wide-field molecular mapping technique. His research has been featured in Physics World, Phys.org, EurekaAlert! (AAAS), Nature India, Swedish National Radio, Caltech,  The Hindu, The Indian Express, The Lallantop, Republic TV, among other national and international news outlets. Dr. Mishra has served as an Adjunct Faculty at IIT Indore, where he founded Fourier Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd. along with his colleagues, focusing on developing smart optical solutions for energy technology and biomedical research.
