Subrata Chakraborty
Assistant ProfessorBiography
Dr. Subrata Chakraborty obtained his Master's degree from IIT Kanpur in 2008. He pursued his doctoral studies at the University of Zurich, Switzerland and received the degree in 2013. He joined the group of Prof. David Milstein at Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel as a SFWIS Postdoctoral Fellow in 2014 and explored the research area of Organometallics and Homogeneous Catalysis with particular focus on Sustainability. Then he moved to University of Muenster, Germany in the group of Prof. Gerhard Erker as an AvH Fellow in 2018. After a brief stint at Muenster, he joined the Department of Chemistry, IIT Jodhpur as an Assistant Professor in June 2019.
Research
Our group is interested in studying Organometallic Catalysis, which shape and guide the chemical processes of the Industry. Our research work focuses on designing organometallic complexes bearing pincer and non-pincer nitrogen, phosphine and carbene based ligands. We explore the designed novel systems in homogeneous catalytic reactions, which play a pivotal role in the synthesis of industrially important molecules for fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, agrochemical and so on. Some of the key areas we are working are depicted below:
- Development of main group and transition metal organometallic molecular complexes
- Novel bond activation and small molecule activation
- Transition Metal catalysed sustainable organic transformation
- Sustainable Energy
