Gopakumar is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, IIT Jodhpur, where he has been serving since August 2022. His research engages broadly with macroeconomic theory and policy, with a focus on monetary and fiscal policy interactions, inflation dynamics, and economic growth policies. He investigates these themes empirically through economy-wide structural models and large datasets. He also pursues active interests in development economics, particularly in measurement issues, the informal economy, and livelihood generation. More recently, he has extended his work into green finance, approaching the subject from a macroeconomic perspective using simulations and computational models.

He has published in reputable national and international journals and has presented his work at forums such as the Annual Congress of the International Institute of Public Finance and conferences of the Indian Econometric Society. He serves as a reviewer for several leading academic journals. He has also secured and contributed to multiple research projects, including collaborative international projects.
