Assistant ProfessorAbout
Dr. Abhay Gupta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering at IIT Jodhpur. He completed his B. Tech degree from IIT Roorkee in 2014 and later obtained his M. Tech degree and Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from IISc Bangalore in 2022. His Ph.D. research work primarily focused on the correlation between electrochemical and microstructural properties within electroplated Tin-based coatings.
Before joining IIT Jodhpur, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lorraine, France, and the University of Quebec, Canada. During his postdoctoral research, he focused on clean energy technologies, with a particular emphasis on green hydrogen production. His work focuses on proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolyzers, including the development of electrodes, the study of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts, and the enhancement of device performance through coatings for porous transport layers (PTLs) and bipolar plates (BPPs). He also examines corrosion behaviour in electrolyzer environments and material durability under prolonged operation.
Dr. Abhay has also worked in the R&D divisions of L&T Green Energy, Mumbai, and Tata Steel's Metaliks Division, Kharagpur, after completing his Ph.D., and at SAIL, Bokaro, after obtaining his B.Tech degree.
The primary focus of his research group is:
- Performance evaluation of PEM electrolyzer components for green hydrogen production.
- Electrode fabrication for water electrolyzers.
- Electrochemistry – corrosion analysis.
