Dr. Bhaswati Sarma joined IIT Jodhpur in 2023 as Professor of Practice in Performing Arts (Vocal Music) in the School of Liberal Arts. She is a professionally trained vocalist in Hindustani Classical Music with a specialization in Dhrupad Sangeet and holds a Ph.D. from Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan.
With over 30 years of experience as a Performing Artist across Classical, Folk, Contemporary, and Semi-classical genres, she is a Graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. Prior to joining IIT Jodhpur, she served as Artist-in-Residence at IIT Guwahati. She is actively involved in Governmental initiatives like MHRD’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. She has received several prestigious honors and accolades such as the 'Navaratna' Award by Renaissance Artists and Writers Association, Kolkata, the 'Kalabid' Award, and bestowed with 'Silver Medal' in All India Classical Music Competition from Nikhil Bharat Sangit Samiti.
She has published research in reputed National and International Journals, focusing on Hindustani classical music, semi-classical and Folk traditions, Comparative music studies, and the interface between Music and Technology. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she holds several administrative roles at IIT Jodhpur.
