Dinesh Mohan Joshi

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the School of Liberal Arts, Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IITJ). He holds a Ph.D. in Indian Mathematics and Astronomy from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Bombay, and brings over a decade of dedicated research experience in the domain of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS).

During his tenure as Research Scientist at IIT Bombay, Dr. Joshi contributed significantly in two major projects:

  1. Creating a Gallery of Scientific Sanskrit Texts in Indian Heritage with Multi-modal Features, and

  2. Project Proposal for Creating a Digital Resource Centre and Carrying out Research on Indian Science and Technology.

Dr. Joshi has authored four major publications, notably Bṛhatsaṃhitā of Varāhamihira with the commentary Vivṛti of Bhaṭṭotpala, Part I (Chapters 1–13), published by DK Printworld. His other books have been published by Chaukhamba, one of the well-known publishing houses in India for classical Indian texts. His expertise in manuscript reading, decoding, interpretation, and critical analysis brings profound scholarly insight into ancient Indian scientific traditions, particularly in the areas of astronomy and mathematics.

He has published more than 20 research papers in reputed journals and several others currently accepted for publication. Currently Dr. Joshi is working on over 5–6 Sanskrit manuscripts related to Indian mathematics and astronomy, which are expected to be published in the near future.
