Rachel Philip

An Assistant Professor in the School of Liberal Arts, IIT Jodhpur. Rachel’s interdisciplinary background includes a BA (Hons) in English from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, a MA in Sociology from the Department of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics and a PhD in Education from the Central Institute of Education, University of Delhi. Working at the intersection  of the Sociology of Education, Social stratification, and Science Technology Society (STS) studies, her research traces the socio-material histories of education interventions, and how they bridge the gap between policy, institutions and individuals. Her first book, a monograph on India's oldest Talent Search Examination for school students, titled The Nation's Got Talent: Education, Experimentation and Policy Discourses in India was published by Routledge in 2023. Her research interests (also spanning her present work and projects) include sociological approaches to technology-enhanced learning, professional development of teachers, and educational interventions for children in vulnerable contexts. Prior to joining to IIT Jodhpur, she has also taught at the Departments of Sociology at Lady Shri Ram College for Women and Indraprastha College for Women  University of Delhi. Apart from academia, she also brings experience from the Corporate Social Responsibility domain, having worked at the Center for Elementary Education, ICICI Foundation, Pune.
