Venkatesha is an Associate Professor in the Innovation & Entrepreneurship area at the School of Management and Entrepreneurship, IIT Jodhpur. He received his doctorate from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. With over a decade of academic and substantive start-up experience, he combines both the practice and the academic aspects of entrepreneurship in his teaching and research. He is well-networked with academia and the entrepreneurial world, from whom he draws inspiration and generates networking opportunities. After completing his doctoral work, he served IIM Rohtak for over six years as an Assistant Professor. Before IIMR, he spent a couple of years with SCMHRD, Symbiosis International University, Pune.
He undertook a journey as an entrepreneur, setting up some unique ventures since 2014. He co-founded a venture called Empathy Connects, which offers a unique rural immersive experience in India. He founded a voluntary group called Badte Kadam and a social venture, PurnaShiksha, catering education to more than 200 children who had no formal learning opportunities. He also co-founded and ran a business incubator successfully.
Venkatesha has widely published his research and case studies in entrepreneurship and small business domains in conjunction with social and economic realities. His work appeared in several journals and case houses, including the Journal of Small Business Management and Ivey Publishing. He also presented his research work at prestigious conferences in different parts of the world. His primary research stream focuses on entrepreneurship/ embeddedness/ Transactional Cost Economizing/ Substantive Entrepreneurship/ Frugality/ BoP Enterprising/ Shared Business Models—the insights generated through his research help enhance business innovation and consultancy services. Venkatesha offers consultancy services around critical scale-up issues and business model innovations using various hands-on matrix solutions.
