Dr. Jitesh’s research interests lies at intersection of strategy and culture, towards exploring strategizing practices of indigenous business communities, that are alien to tools and frameworks taught at business-schools. His research was recognized by Strategic Management Society with the dissertation proposal being first runner-up to the ‘M. B. Sarkar That’s Interesting Proposal’ Award, 2018. This award is given for the scholarly work that holds potential to push the boundaries of the field. Exploring Marwaris, an ethnic business community from India, his dissertation illuminated distinct, inherited and embodied business practices not beholden to the institutionalized business education and its strategic tools but to the community itself. Given the strangeness of the context, methodology of a year-long ethnography was undertaken in an industrial town of Marwar region where the actors while staying alien to the master discourse of strategic management have been able to perpetuate performance. It was found that community’s system of meanings, drawn from the nexus of bazaar norms, community values and religious faith, were symptomatic of patterns and regularities of professionalization of a distinct kind.

The essays in his dissertation illuminated the governance mechanisms within the business community and the value appropriation dynamics, employing Mignolo’s decolonial theory and Bourdieu’s practice theory to make sense of the indigenous strategizing practices. One of these essays got published in Organization: The critical journal of organization, theory and society, which is the foremost journal in critical management studies. Furthermore, he has presented research papers at international conferences, including European Group for Organizational studies (EGOS). He is a recipient of Director's Merit Award for scholastic excellence in PGP-I/FPM programme at IIM Trichy. Prior to PhD, he has worked in industry and academia for around four years, starting his career with Shoppers Stop group in Mumbai after completing MBA. Post PhD, he served as an Assistant Professor at O. P. Jindal Global University for a couple of years before joining IIT Jodhpur.
