Publication in Journal `Science` by Dr. B. M. Krishna Mariserla and Collaborators

Congratulation Dr. B. M. Krishna Mariserla and his collaborators for publishing their research work entitled "Directly visualizing the momentum-forbidden dark excitons and their dynamics in atomically thin semiconductors" in Science (Impact Factor: 41.84), which is a highly prestigious journal across all disciplines of Science and Technology. This is a great achievement of our faculty member and a proud moment for the Department of Physics. 

The team has developed a world-first powerful time-resolved ARPES nanoscopy to visualize and measure the dark excitons. The experiments are demonstrated in a semiconducting atomic layer of tungsten diselenide and capture the dynamics across a full Brillouin zone with visible & XUV photons. The technique could also be applicable to other condensed matter systems hosting excitonic excitations such as trions, biexcitons, and interlayer excitons. The dark excitons dominated the excited-state distribution, a surprising finding that highlights their importance in atomically thin semiconductors and quantum materials.
