Industrial Visit to Rajasthan State Roadways and Transportation Corporation (RSRTC) Jodhpur (05 October 2019) by Automobile Club of Student Science and Technology Society under IIC 2.0The Automobile Club of Student Science and Technology Society, IIT Jodhpur, organized a day-long Industrial Visit to Rajasthan State Roadways and Transportation Corporation (RSRTC) Jodhpur on October 05, 2019. Students were guided by Mr. Hanuman Singh Rajpurohit, CPM, RSRTC Jodhpur.
The visit was attended by 42 students. The production unit at RSRTC is divided into different subsystems. The students were introduced to engine assembly line, which was followed by an assembly of electrical components of buses. This was followed by introduction to the transmission assembly and the steering and suspension subsystems. The real-world problems observed in the visit included inefficient cooling of engines and the lack of electrical components in an automobile. It was observed that the industry still utilizes BS3 engines and has no dedicated department or defined parameters to check the quality of manufactured goods, which increases the risks of failures. A scope for automation for high-precision tasks as well as automated assembly line was strongly observed. Large compressors and fans, water cooling, etc. are used for cooling of the engines. Electrical components like electrical continuous variable transmission (CVT), power steering, etc. can be used to increase driver ergonomics. Development and use of BS4 engines is anticipated, while the trend is soon expected to move towards BS6 engines. Students inferred that electric vehicles could offer significant advantages and solutions to several prevalent shortcomings in the automobile industry.
