About the speaker:

Prof Hari Mohan Gupta received B.E. (Electronics and Communications) from University
of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), M.Tech. (Electronics and Electrical Communication
Engineering) from IIT, Kharagpur and Ph.D. (Electrical Engineering – Information and
Communication Systems Major) from IIT, Kanpur. He joined the Department of Electrical
Engineering at IIT, Delhi in 1973 where he became a professor in 1986. He held Professor
(HAG), Emeritus Professor and Chair Professorship positions at IIT, Delhi . He has been
Dean, Undergraduate Studies and Head of the Department at IIT, Delhi. He was the
founding Coordinating Head of Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and
Management at IIT, Delhi, the first industrially sponsored school at IIT, Delhi..

Prof. Gupta held full time faculty positions at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and
Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA. He has been summer visiting professor at
University of Maryland, College Park, USA, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT),
Cambridge, USA, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland,
Helsinki University of Technology, Finland, SKK University, Suwon, South Korea, and
several British Universities. He was recognized as “Distinguished Professional Engineer”,
at 13th
National Convention of Computer Engineers in 1998 and as “Eminent Engineer”
by Institution of Engineers in 2012.

He held adjunct professorial position at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu, IIT
Ropar, IIT Jodhpur and Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management
(IIITM), Gwalior.

His academic and research interests are Telecommunication Systems and Policies,
Computer Communication Networks, Mobile Computing and Networks, Multimedia
Information Processing, and Photonic Information Systems and Networks.

He is a Fellow of Institution of Communication Engineers and Information Technologists
(ICEIT), Fellow of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE),
Fellow of Institution of Engineers, and Fellow of Computer Society of India (CSI). He has
been the Council Member of IETE, Vice-President of Systems Society of India, Chairman
of Data Communication Division of CSI, President of Information and Communication
Division of Indian Science Congress Association, and a founder member of Association
for Security of Information Systems (ASIS). He was India’s Representative in International
Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) – Committee on Communications. Currently
he is President of Institution of Communication Engineers and Information Technologists
(ICEIT). He has been a Member of the Board of Governors of IIT, Delhi. He served on
many committees such as Education and Research Network (ERNET) Establishment
Committee, Networking Committee of National Mission on Education through ICT
(NMEICT - Min. of HRD).
He is also involved in mentoring various national level technical institutions for increasing
their effectiveness through academic programme modernization, R&D planning and
execution, and extension and outreach activities.
