Title of Seminar:
"An Ecocritical Reading of Barbara Kingsolver’s  Prodigal Summer (2000)  and Flight Behavior (2012)" by Abhra Paul

Abstract

Ecocriticism emerged as a new critical approach in the 1990s. Literary critics examined works of literature focusing on the relationship between human and Nature. Ecofeminism, as a sub-field of ecocriticism, emphasizes the interconnection of all life forms. It argues that there is a parallel between women and nature that comes from their shared history of oppression. This study offers an ecocritical reading of Kingsolver’s latest fiction Prodigal Summer (2000) and Flight Behavior (2012). These novels depict interconnection between the major characters and nature. Here I have explored ways in which this interconnection can be interpreted through an ecofeminist lens.
