The subject of physics is considered to be one of the closest to almost all the branches of engineering. Though inherently a science subject based on sound theoretical foundations, the current activities of physics across the world have huge impact on new, advanced and emerging technologies. Keeping these facts into consideration, the Department of Physics at IIT Jodhpur is committed to impart quality education to the students which is based on strong academic curriculum comprising elements of theoretical concepts, laboratory experiments and very importantly hands on experiments. The grandaunts of Department are expected to have deep insight into the subject together with strong bent of mind to pursue research in the cutting edge areas.
Currently, the Department is offering two postgraduate programs viz. Ph.D. and M.Sc. (2 years). The Department is also jointly offering 4-year M.Sc.-M.Tech. (Materials Engineering) Dual Degree program which will have a unique combination of courses interfacing physics with materials engineering.
The department has a very good blend of highly qualified young and experienced faculty members in the areas of advanced physics. Department is also equipped with a number of thematic laboratories which enable the students to carry out high end and impactful theoretical and applied research in the following focus areas:
High Energy Physics and Astrophysics
Theoretical research in Astrophysics, Particle physics, Cosmology, Dark matter and Dark energy.
Open Quantum Systems, Theoretical and Experimental aspects of Quantum Optics & Quantum Information, Quantum Field Theory , Quantum Statistical Mechanics and Quantum Cosmology.
