Professor Prawal Sinha joins Department of Mathematics at IIT Jodhpur

Professor Prawal Sinha obtained his Ph.D. degree from IIT Bombay in 1976. Thereafter, he joined IIT Kanpur as a Lecturer in 1978. He was elevated to the level of Professor in 1998, where he is serving currently. He has joined IIT Jodhpur on 8 February 2016, on deputation.    
 His area of research is Mathematical Modeling of Engineering and Bio-systems. Professor Sinha has been actively working in the field of Tribology and Computational Fluid Dynamics, and has so far supervised the work of 14 Ph.D. Theses. He has published over a hundred papers in refereed international and national journals.
During 1986-87, he was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada. In 2000, he was awarded the prestigious C. L. Chandna Award, instituted by a Canadian Society to an Indian Mathematician for outstanding teaching and research in Mathematics. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Indian Academy of Mathematical Modeling and Simulation. He has been a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE). He has served on the Organizing Committees of several National and International Conferences.
Professor Sinha has also shouldered many administrative responsibilities at IIT Kanpur. He served as the Chairman (Council of Wardens) in 1989, as the Head (Counseling Services) during 1999-2002, as the Chairman, Department of Mathematics and Statistics during 2003-05, and as the Dean (Students’ Affairs) during 2005-08.
