Foundational Research

Breakthroughs in AI and Data Science are key to controlling and shaping the future technological landscape. Without continued progress in core AI and Data Science Technologies transformative potential of AI will not be realised. The school brings together faculty from diverse disciplines with shared interest in fundamental challenges in AI and Data Science to make significant contributions in next 5 years through publications in top ranking AI and Data Science conferences and journals

Application Directed Research

AI is today being integrated with and deployed into a variety of sectors. There are numerous examples where AI is making an impact on the world and augmenting human capabilities in significant ways. Faculty members from diverse disciplines associated with the school work on AI and Data Science applications in basic sciences, biological sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences and different fields of engineering. School aims to make significant contributions in application fields by developing approaches aligned to the problem specific challenges.

Locally Relevant Research

Rajasthan, as a state, has several large scale applications of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for uplifting the local communities. For example, how AIDE can help in agriculture in the arid region? How AIDE can help in exploiting solar energy? How AIDE can assist in research on ground water management? How AIDE. can help in providing clean drinking water? How AIDE can help in preserving and flourishing local art and culture? The AIDE School will undertake interdisciplinary research projects that will be locally connected and socially relevant.

Centres of Excellence

School has Centres of Excellence to enable a group of faculty to focus on very specific areas for high quality research output and specialised courses. Centres of Excellence will provide a unique and distinguished transdisciplinary capability to carry out high quality fundamental and translational research. CoE’s will have a dynamic lifecycle of existence and closure based upon technology trends. Some of the areas of current interest would be

  1. Brain Science and Applications: This CoE will focus on Science of Intelligence, Brain-Machine Interface, Assistive Technologies and use of AI and Data Science for understanding of brain diseases and injuries.
  2. Human Centered AI: The CoE on HCAI will drive research in AI technologies focusing on human-in-the-loop, impacting human, and augmenting human capabilities. Research threads such as Secure AI, Ambient AI, and Environmental Intelligence will be targeted.
  3. Mathematical and Computational Economics: Among the most sought after research areas of AI and Data Science is Economics. The CoE will focus on interdisciplinary research in analytical and applied areas of economics, mathematics, data science and machine learning. For more details please click here.
  4. AI based Precision Healthcare: The CoE will focus on connecting AI and Data Science with health technologies towards building next generation medical healthcare systems. The transdisciplinary Center will also closely connect with medical institutions in India and abroad towards fostering collaborative research and deployments of proposed technologies.        
  5. Intelligent Infrastructure: This CoE will focus on the interplay between urban development, infrastructure planning, AI, and Data Science. Focused research areas will include smart infrastructure planning, data driven intelligent construction methods and materials, intelligent infrastructure monitoring and maintenance, and environmental sustainability.
  6. Language Technology: This CoE will focus on interplay between neuro and psycho linguistics with computational methodologies for natural language understanding and generation for building systems that can communicate with human in written and/or oral form of natural language, which has been a central goal of AI research.
  7. Guarantees in Machine Learning: As machine learning is finding applications for mission critical and high stakes problem, there is necessity of designing learning techniques with guarantees. This CoE will deal with questions like: how accurate a learned model will be; whether its predictions will be fair; whether it will divulge information about individuals; or whether it is vulnerable to adversarial attacks.
