Lecture on "Voyage through space and time: microscopic view of elementary chemical and biological events" - 17 February 2017

Date and Venue Information:
17 February 2017, 4:15 pm, Room No. 2102, Academic Block II

Title of Lecture:
"Voyage through space and time: microscopic view of elementary chemical and biological events" by Professor Biman Bagchi, F.N.A., F.A.Sc., F.N.A.Sc., FTWAS, Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore.

Abstract
Man has remained fascinated with space and time since eternity. Starting with the early discoveries of telescope, microscope and clocks, we have graduated to atomic force microscopy and ultra-short laser pulses that provide unprecedented spatio-temporal resolution necessary to study natural phenomena at the microscopic level. The most recent development is single molecule spectroscopy that opened a unique way to study chemical and biological phenomena, like protein folding, enzyme kinetics, protein-DNA interaction at a single molecule level. We shall discuss many of the recent discoveries on these areas and try to understand fundamental microscopic chemical events that drive these processes.
